World Netball Series
Jo Harten also faced the best in the World in Manchester where the top 6 netballing nations competed under the new Fastnet rules. Power play quarters, double points and rolling substitutions made for an exciting showpiece for netball in this shortened form of the game.
Again Jo Harten was a stand out performer for the England team in their wins against Australia, New Zealand and Jamaica in the pool games, shooting from outside the circle on several occasions. Unfortunately again Jamaica pipped them to the Bronze medal, but Jo entertained the crowd and performed extremely well again for her country.

World Youth Championships-Cook Islands
Lightning had 3 representatives in the England U21 team which took on the top netballing nations in the Cook Islands in August, Joanne Harten (Vice- Captain), Katy Rose and Sarah Jane O’Sullivan. Having spent the best part of four years preparing for the event it didn’t fail to disappoint. England successfully made it through to the quarter finals topping their group. South Africa where there opponents and a dominant defensive display saw England win 44-24.
England then were faced by the old enemy (and favourites) Australia in the semi final. Despite stand out performances from the Lightning girls Australia came out victors 63-42. A devastated England team needed to pick themselves up for the Bronze medal match against Jamaica. Once again the starting line up had all 3 Lightning girls present. The game’s momentum went back and forth between teams until a decisive moment in the final quarter which saw Jo Harten leave the court with an injury. Jamaica stormed home to a score line of 48-42.
